The University of Miami chapter of the Society of Physics Students experienced what is hoped to be the start of a rejuvenation during the 1999-2000 school year. We had several new members join, and we are hoping for more when the Fall Semester of 2000 begins. We also inducted 6 new members into the University's chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma. We sponsored a variety of talks given by some of the professors from the UM Physics Department, hosted regular brown-bag lunches which gave students and professors a chance to meet in a less formal atmosphere, took part in departmental events, and helped plant the seed for a weekly Happy Hour which again promoted camaraderie among students and professors. In the coming year, we are planning to continue our involvement and hope for greater participation from all. |
