Both Miami International Airport (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale
International Airport (FLL) serve the greater Miami area. While
FLL has several well-known discount carriers and hence generally lower
fares than
MIA, if bookings are made well
in advance the fare difference between FLL and MIA can be insignificant. Indeed, it may
even be less expensive to fly into MIA.
For directions from the airports to the hotel, see the Sonesta
Beach Resort, Key Biscayne travel page from which we have taken the
following: Airport Transfers
Taxis
are approximately $35.00 from Miami International Airport to the resort
and $92.00 from Fort Lauderdale International Airport to the
resort.
Super Shuttle ranges from $15.00 - $19.00 per person
from Miami
International Airport to the resort. Airport Express provides
service
from Ft. Lauderdale International Airport to the resort for $22.00 per
person/shared ride and $65.00 per per person/non-shared ride.
Car Rentals
Enterprise
Rent-A-Car is available at the hotel, seven days a week from
9:00am-5:00pm. After hours drop-off is available at the hotel or
at
Miami International Airport free of charge. Dial Direct:
(305)361-9151.
So, may we suggest the following three travel options -- ordered
according to
our preferences:
Option (1) Fly
into Miami International. Take a Super Shuttle
to the hotel.
Option (2) Fly
into Fort Lauderdale International. Share an Airport Express
ride to the hotel.
Note: Shared express rides from FLL to the hotel are only ~$5
higher than shuttle rides from MIA to the hotel. But, if you
cannotshare an express ride,
rather than paying the non-shared fare, it may be cost effective to
rent a car
for
drop-off at the hotel. See the next option.
Option (3) Fly
into either MIA or FLL, rent a car from Enterprise, drive leisurely to
the hotel
by a
scenic route (but try not to go too
far), and drop-off the car at the hotel's Enterprise Rent-A-Car
agency, avoiding resort parking
fees.
Note: At the time of this writing, Enterprise does not charge a
"drop-off fee" at the Sonesta for cars from either MIA or FLL.
Next we give several more options for
the more adventurous traveler with time to spare.
Option (4) Fly
into FLL, take the Tri-Rail
& Metrorail
to the University of
Miami, and enjoy the ~2 to 3 hour long trip by commuter rail!
Note: If you choose this
time
consumingbutcheap (< $5)
route to go from FLL to the University, and if youarrange
it with us in advance, we will transport you from the University
to the hotel, as a compliment. You will have earned it!
Option (5) Take Amtrak to
Miami. Take a taxi
from the station to the hotel.
And finally, for those of you who really have time on your hands:
Option (6) Drive
from anywhere in North America to the hotel.
Note: It
will cost you $75 to park for 5 days at the Sonesta.
Option (7)
Travel in your own boat to Miami and dock at a marina
near Key Biscayne.
